Construction called Metropol Parasol - the creation of a German company J. Mayer H. Architects. It assures Inhabitat, this system of a variety of wooden panels - the largest structure in the world of wood. megastructure length is about 150 meters, width - 75, and the height - 28 m.
The futuristic appearance was given the Metropol Parasol deliberately to contrast with the surrounding historic part of the city. But contrast this at the same time softened due to neutral, soft colors of the building.
According to the authors, openwork design will attract tourists and city dwellers, would make the Plaza de la Encarnación Seville's new cultural center.
Inside the building the architects have placed raised above ground level promenade, an archaeological museum, a small market, a restaurant, and at the top - a terrace with winding paths.
The Colossus is made up of wavy, flowing into each other six "umbrellas", resting on a concrete base.
It is interesting that originally there was to be spread out covered parking. But after the square held archaeological excavations and found the ruins of the Roman era, it was decided to build a museum and community center. J. Mayer H. Architects had the opportunity to realize their fantasy of winning the competition for the building of the area conducted by the city in 2004.
Basic material "umbrella" - a panel of Kerto-Q material from the company Finnforest, interestingly - German. Kerto-Q - is glued timber from Finnish spruce, in fact it is a kind of plywood, but very thick, durable, high-density and large number of layers.
In the "umbrella" took 3400 such shaped plate thickness from 68 to 311 millimeters. Major elements of the whole (parts carrier trunks) of Kerto-Q to account for the length 16 is 5 meters. The total volume of the structure of the wooden parts of 2,500 cubic meters.
