Here are some figures on the scale of the disaster and its consequences: the renovation costs, rescue and clearing rubble totaled 245 billion dollars; 15846 dead; 3320 missing persons; 2 number of the missing were found dead; in the prefectures of Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima left 240 orphans; 16 million tons of garbage cleared in Miyagi Prefecture; 2, 4 million of tourists decreased (compared with the previous year); 6 years reduced the average life expectancy of women and 3 years - the average life expectancy for men (compared to forecasts).

And, despite all this, Japan has achieved great results in the aftermath of the disaster.
