As a couple of iron bird was rescued from Elbrus
Somehow we have gradually accustomed to the idea that all we have is bad. The country, they say, no one in the government of the plutocrats, and there are no heroes in our country. Do not believe it, we have a lot of normal people who quietly do their work, worthy of the highest words.
Recently I was lucky to meet such a man. Vladimir Horev, test pilot of the company "Rostvertol". Under his leadership, carried out a unique operation: from the top of Mount Elbrus two wrecked helicopter were lifted. At the same time it was found just seven world records! In the continuation of the photos and the story of this operation.
... A military helicopter Mi-8 fell on the northern slope of Mount Elbrus July 27, 2010 as a result of the so-called air hooliganism. The pilots decided to work out how to put helicopters in the mountains at the maximum altitude without getting to this command authorization, without proper training. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the car and so remained lying on its side, with the tail boom broken off, at an altitude of 4820 meters above sea level.
It turned out that the helicopter was lying not far from the tourist trail, on which to climb Elbrus foreign climbers. Germans, French, Austrians gladly photographed against a background of falling car with red stars on board. Question has acquired a political tinge. of helicopter evacuation decision was made at the government level, which is clothed in the form of Air Force Commander of the order.
In our Air Force pilots are fine. But pull on the external sling load juggernaut with nearly five thousand mark (it is close to the height limit for helicopters) for them too complicated. Therefore, the military asked for help to the plant "Rostvertol". To carry out this operation was entrusted with test pilot, retired colonel Vladimir Horev.
Like many pilots, the love of the sky at the Horev since childhood. In the Syzran Military Aviation School he enrolled during emergency army service. Fly he studied at the "Mil" machines - "Baby" Mi-2 and Mi-8 universal. The "eight" Horev fell in love immediately. This helicopter is considered one of the most successful in the global aviation industry. Layout, capacity, flight characteristics make it multi-purpose: it is a combat and transport vehicle that can operate reliably in high mountains and in the hot desert.
At its "eight" Horev flew in the Carpathian Military District, was twice sent to Afghanistan. There had landed troops, evacuate the wounded, take off at night to "sweep". Double Vladimir Horev pulled out from under our noses, "spirits" of our crews hit by a car. In memory of Afghanistan remained the Order of the Red Banner, and two orders of the Red Star, and even friendship with the rescued pilots: every year they call up in the memorable dates.
The first circled the crash site Horev performed by helicopter Mi-26 (known as "cow" for a large roomy belly) at the end of August 2010. But the huge machine (the world record for the load-carrying capacity) and could not hang over the helicopter was in the bed, while the engine runs at maximum take-off mode. Screws simply clung to the thin air, the machine goes down, sometimes critically approaching with rocks.
Then it was decided to have surgery in the cold season. In August air temperature at the top of Elbrus was zero. And in sub-zero values of the thrust-rotorcraft increases significantly.
In Horev had flight experience in the mountains: in Pakistan, where he delivered the "humanitarian aid" after the strong earthquake. Or in China in mountainous terrain Khoreva helicopter borne on the external load heavy construction equipment to save 86-minute miners crumbling mine. But there was another height on Elbrus. And Khorev understood that under such conditions the slightest flaw in piloting or accident, such as a gust of wind or entering a zone of warmer air, will lead to the fact that the 33-ton Mi-26 collapses onto the rocks.
Therefore, the operation was extended in March 2011, when the air temperature is 15-20 degrees below zero.
platform "Basic" has been broken At an altitude of 2500 meters where the air tanker delivered. At first, with a minimum of "gorjuchki" in tanks, Horev circled the scene of an accident, an example to the terrain and air currents. Then the car was filled with the calculated amount of fuel - to determine the maximum weight that at this altitude you can take on the external sling. As gorjuchki Mi-26 consumption behaved more and more confident, and empirically it was determined that it can raise under these conditions, the two and a half tons of cargo. Mi-8 crashed weighed seven tons. So, it was necessary to dismantle it, and take out piece by piece.
On Elbrus arrived a landing military experts from Budennovsk. They had to disassemble the helicopter. For them to Mount Elbrus were transported container with tools and a two-ton box-kung, where you can warm up and spend the night. The operation was postponed again - until the autumn.
And in June, Elbrus, at an altitude of 3500 meters, crashed just two helicopters. First, due to an error in piloting, dropped a small P-44 "Robinson", which went for wealthy tourists. Following this, almost side by side, because of the difficult weather conditions, fell Ka-27 South search rescue center, which flew to the rescue. Fortunately no one was killed, people were evacuated. Very fast search service pulled from the mountain road "Robinson" (he weighed not much). Heavier Ka-27 remained lying on the mountain. Rescuers have addressed to the command of the 4th Air Army "at the same time to" pull their car, since evacuation team is working on Elbrus. And this "good" was given ...
learn to fly helicopters, step by step. Technological cycle of the new helicopter goes first in each shop, where the installed equipment is checked carefully without the "hot" start. Then on the flight test station for a long time and carefully checks the operation of the engine is carried out adjustment of all systems. Finally comes the big day: a new car off the ground. The first flight, as a rule, is ten minutes hovering in the air at low altitude. From test pilot required a lot of patience, focus, shutter speed, so as not to miss the slightest deviation in the behavior of fledgling birds.
Surely the same concentration needed to Vladimir Horeb in the decisive day of October 27, when he was evacuated Mi-8, lying almost at the top of Elbrus. In one crew worked with him: the second pilot from Torzhok Dmitry Zipir, Rostov "voenvedovskie" helicopter - Dmitry Kononov navigator, flight engineer Denis Koshurnikov, flight operators Vitaly Morgunovsky.
Heavy machine inching came to the side of the mountain, touching the stones left wheel chassis. He parachuted to the ground team of installers. Second run, podtsepka cargo. Engines took to the maximum take-off mode, and the Mi-26, hung like Storefront. weight meter on the outside of the suspension showed the importance - three thousand kilos, instead of the expected estimated two thousand. The threat of an accident. The Mi-26 was able to raise the fuselage, "eight" is only a meter from the ground, while it was necessary to climb and move cargo through the ridge of rocks and a 15-meter cliff.
Instantly analyzed the situation, Horev decides on fuel production while hovering to the lowest possible 1100 kilograms. After that, the cargo was to drag on glacial trough through a narrow gap in the rocks. The task was complicated by the fact that on the outer hanging suspension fuselage top untwist strong air stream which is formed from the rotor.
Cargo swung on ropes and flying next to cliffs. It seemed that the troubles can not be avoided. Horev tried to fend off this swinging, moving the control stick. lack of oxygen, lack of engine power were compounded by the complexity of the visual orientation: the horizon was distorted by the slope of Mount Elbrus.
With the remainder of fuel in 1150. kilograms handling machines has improved slightly. Horev decided to take off. When the fuselage "eight" smoothly passed through the stone gates of the 26th crew breathed a sigh of relief. The car entered the ice rushed down slope and increasing speed. Rotor received extra traction and finally the Mi-26 switched to the normal flight mode.
The main and heaviest cargo was gently laid on the ground. In the last drops of fuel Mi-26 landed at the site of "Basic".
The rest of it was a matter of technique. The latter dragged the tail boom, which is thoroughly frozen into the ice, but was able to Horev her snatch. Stacked on the slope of the goods, he helicopter pilot shifted slightly above the ground to pick up the group. When Major Yershov and Perov captain jumped into the belly of the Mi-26 helicopter lifted load into the air, taking the last of the evacuees, "eight". On this flight on the most mountainous area in the world for the world's heaviest helicopter Mi-26 over.
The next day, October 28, Rostov pulled Ka-27, who was lying on the scree at the base of the glacier at an altitude of 3500 meters. Machine weight is seven tons, but from this height, according to the calculations of the commander, Ka-27 can be pulled out without dismantling assemblies. Shrouded in snow dust, Mi-26 took to the suspension of the fallen brother, gently lifted him over the stone ridge and headed for the platform "Basic".
The task was accomplished. During evacuation operations on Elbrus crew VV Horev was set seven world records related to the heavy helicopter piloting and delivery of cargo to a height of 4820 and 3500 meters. Currently Vladimir Horev promoted to the rank of the Hero of Russia, and the other participants of this operation - to the state awards.
October 28, 1999 in Vladivostok visited the then Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin, he was shown the possibility of "black shark" (the helicopter piloted by Horev, who worked at that time in Arsenyev aviation enterprise). thank God, and then the boss would again began to ask in: Black Shark "is only one place for the pilot, relieved" As it should be, check out the helicopter, and when they learned that prior to visiting us looked the guys from the bodyguard of prime minister. " cockpit, fly - says Vladimir Horev.
When were performed demonstration flights, Vladimir Putin shook hands and gave Horev commemorative watches. Good gold watch brand "Russian." Inscription on the back cover: "From the Russian government." "Putin's" clock went Horev 28 October, the day of the birth of Russian army aviation. And another fell on the date of the Day: October 28, 2011 Rostov pilots completed the rescue operation on Elbrus.
All thoughts of Vladimir Khoreva the sky - when he is at work. And at home waiting for his family: his wife, two adult children and grandchildren. And he has a hobby: guitar. As a child, Vladimir graduated from music school, but did not guitarist, and a pilot. But the guitar still life left, and Vladimir takes it in his hands when going to a bunch of friends. Most often, "singing the pilot" sings about the sky.
Who will say that no more heroes in Russia?
